Sergeant Michael S. Curtin
New York City Police Department

Michael Curtin dedicated his life to protecting America. He served for 12 years in the United States Marine Corps before joining the New York Police Department. As a reservist he briefly returned to active military duty, serving on the front lines in the first Gulf War.

Sergeant Curtin carried his military discipline into his NYPD Emergency Services Unit, constantly training himself and his fellow officers. That training paid off throughout his distinguished career, including his response to the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. He was also assigned to FEMA for the Oklahoma City rescue effort in 1995.

A devoted husband and father, Michael rarely missed his three daughters’ sporting events, and always tried to sport our stars and stripes at the family reunions. He is missed by family and friends who continue his legacy with the efforts of the 3256 Foundation.

Michael was posthumously awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor for his heroism on 9/11, and more recently the Medal of Valor presented by President Bush in September, 2005.
